Mayor Gives Picture of Million People

Jim Diodati says to expect that unfathomable number for full solar eclipse, advised by American film crew

The Mayor of Niagara Falls is trying to paint a picture of a million people from around the world in the city April 8th to see the full solar eclipse.

Jim Diodati was told by a major American filming group that tracks events like this to expect that number.

He thought back to when Bryan Adams played here for New Years.  "We had 50,000 to 60,000 people, all as far as the eye can see.  So, throughout the city, on New Year's Eve, maybe we have 100,000 people... so, to have 10 times that number is unfathomable."

During discussion with the film crew, the city was asked if it knew what to possibly expect.

"Well, we don't really.  So, they asked us what our biggest event was.  We said it was Nik Wallenda, in 2012, [tight rope artist] when we had 130,000 to 150,000 people.  They told us to multiply to that by 8 or 9."

The mayor says to expect people arriving over the weekend in preparation, and to make sure you're stocked up on supplies.

He admits hotels and motels have increased their prices, but points to supply and demand.
