It'll help upgrade equipment
A $13,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will be used to help people in Niagara living with autism.
Autism Ontario South Region will upgrade equipment that reduces stress for people on the spectrum.
Volunteer Coordinator Janine O'Brien says that includes sensory friendly mats to lay on, for people who's senses get over stimulated and need quiet. "Using those mats we can create a welcoming environment, a soft environment, that somebody can go and de-stress, if they become over stimulated, or there's too much happening, and they need that quiet zone."
She adds the money will help for their travelling summer camps.
"We can serve an approximate of 400 autistic individuals, and that could be ranging from children, youth, and adults, because autism doesn't stop when you become an adult, even though sometimes funding stops," she says.
