Government Reinstates Hockey Canada Funding

The federal government has restored Hockey Canada funding, with strings attached

The Canadian government has restored funding to Hockey Canada.

The announcement was made yesterday before the women's world hockey championship gold medal game between Canada and the US.

The funding was cut off last year over after a woman claimed she was assaulted by eight players - including members of the 2018 world junior team - at an event in London, Ontario, in 2018.

An out of court settlement of $3.55 million was reached between the woman and Hockey Canada.

Shortly afterwards, the organization announced members of the 2003 world junior team were being investigated for an alleged group sexual assault.

Canadian Sport Minister Pascal St-Onge says the restored funding will come with accountability measures and regular check-ins with Sport Canada.
