Jennie Stevens, Wayne Gates and Jeff Burch say greenspace across the province is at risk.
Niagara's NDP Members of Parliament are calling on the Ford government to uphold environmental protections of the Niagara Escarpment.
This comes after the Auditor General's report found there is no environmental monitoring of the Niagara Escarpment.
Jennie Stevens, Jeff Burch and Wayne Gates say the landmark provides a lot of benefits to the surrounding land and local communities.
“The Niagara Escarpment is a unique and vital landmark running right through the heart of southwestern Ontario,” Stevens says. “Our communities rely on this conservation area for recreation, green space, and local wildlife protections. Yesterday’s report revealed that there is effectively no protection for any of this land anymore, and no consequences to building on the Escarpment against the rules.”
The Niagara Escarpment Commission says maintaining the area has become increasing challenging, due to population growth and economic pressures.
