Food prices in Canada are expected to rise even more next year.
According to Canada's Food Price Report, the average family of four can expect to pay over $16,000 for groceries, which is about $1,000 more than this year.
The report's lead author says food inflation will remain high in the first half of the year, before it begins to ease.
Multiple factors could influence food prices next year, including climate change, rising energy costs, geopolitical cconflicts and the lingering impact of the pandemic.
Currency fluctuation could also play a part if the Canadian dollar becomes weaker.
In recent weeks, it has hovered around the 74 cent mark.
Vegetables are expected to see the largest price increase, with experts predicting a jump as high as eight percent.
Meanwhile, other categories like dairy, bread and meat could see price bumps of about seven percent.
