Winter Weather Closes Schools for Niagara

Student Transportation Services took buses off the road last night, with another few cms of snow and ice overnight

It's a message many students love hearing during the winter months.

Student Transportation Services says all schools for the Catholic and District School board in the Niagara region are closed today, due to yesterday's ice and snow storm, that is still lingering this morning.

However, Brock University and Niagara College are open.

Last night it was announced all buses will be taken off the road for this morning.

Environment Canada has a freezing drizzle advisory for the Niagara region, and it'll continue through the morning.

Last night a few cms fell.

Environment Canada adds roughly 20mm of snow and ice is expected for various parts of southern Ontario today.

Hydro One is reporting nearly 30,000 homes and businesses are without power overnight -- mostly in southwestern Ontario, with Windsor being hardest hit.

And this system, which is from the US, has crippled most of the country with power outages and cancellations.

The weather has also caused the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region in St. Catharines to close, and all Outreach in-person programs around the region are cancelled.  On-line programs are running, and if you need to talk to staff, call 905-687-3914 and leave a message.
