DSBN says due to pandemic, building will not be ready to open by September 2022.
The West Niagara Secondary School building will not be ready in time for the start of school in September.
The DSBN making the announcement today, saying the impacts of the global pandemic have resulted in delays.
Grimsby Secondary School (GSS) and Beamsville District Secondary School (BDSS) students currently in grades 9 to 11, as well as incoming ninth grade students, will officially be enrolled at West Niagara Secondary School, even though the building itself is not ready.
Students will attend the GSS location for regular classes and programming, and the BDSS facilities will be used for specialty courses and programs.
Transportation to and from GSS and between the two sites will be provided.
Courses and program requested through the DSBN's recent course survey will still be offered in September 2022, along with extracurriculars, clubs and teams.
The board says an update will be shared when there is a clearer idea of when the building will be completed.
The DSBN is also working on getting the synthetic turf track and field ready for use at West Niagara Secondary School by September 2022.
