Integrity commissioner rules Harold Jonker broke code of conduct.

A West Lincoln Councilor who attended the "Freedom Convoy" rally in Ottawa is facing some trouble.

An integrity commissioner has ruled that Councilor Harold Jonker broke the code of conduct earlier this year by accepting free gas and food while attending demonstrations.

Council has voted in favour of recommendations made by the commissioner, including docking the Councilor's pay for 30 days.

Jonker has also been asked to account for the value of food and fuel he received and show proof that the money has been reimbursed.

The councilor, who owns Jonker Trucking, says he attended the rally as a truck driver, not as a councilor, and didn't receive any benefits from people in the township.

Meanwhile, the integrity commissioner alleges Jonker was representing the municipality and people impacted by COVID-19 regulations.
