Welland Postal Worker Charged in Mail Theft Investigation

Suspect accused of stealing prepaid credit cards

A postal worker from Welland has been arrested in connection with a mail theft investigation.

Police say in February, they received a complaint from a resident who said two prepaid credit cards in their name were supposed to be sent by mail to their house.

When the cards didn't arrive, the complainant found the cards had been used at various stores in Welland.

Security footage showed a woman making a purchase while wearing a Canada Post uniform.

Katie Lee Walmsley, 45, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft of Mail (2 Counts)
  • Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card (2 Counts)

She has been released on bail, and will appear in court next month.

Investigators say Walmsley was a Canada Post letter carrier who sorted and delivered mail to homes and businesses in the area of Fitch Street and Wilson Road.

Since August 2022, she delivered on the following roads: Loyalist Drive, Maureen Avenue, Westwood Crescent, Donna Marie Drive, Leonard Avenue, Lisa Court, Jennifer Court, Plaza Way, and Westdale Drive.

Detectives believe there may be other victims, and anyone who didn't receive expected mail such as gift cards or credit cards is asked to call police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009077.
