The City of Welland would like to invest in it's Recreation Corridor.

A $13.5-million project is in the works.

It includes replacing the floating stage at the Merritt Park Amphitheatre and the installation new outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and tennis.

The City recently applied for funding under the Federal/Provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program under the Community, Culture and Recreation Stream.

This means the city would have to come up with 26.67 percent of the funds, while the federal government provides 40 percent and the province pitches in 33.33 percent.

If the funding is approved, most of the facility updates should be completed by September 2022.
