University and Colleges Vary on Fall Mask and Vaccine Strategies

Brock and Niagara College continue to encourage vaccines and mask use but not mandated

Post-secondary institutions in the Hamilton and Niagara regions say they will continue to pause their COVID-19 vaccine mandates as the start of the fall semester nears.

According to the CBC McMaster University, Mohawk and Niagara Colleges will be encouraging people to get vaccinated and wear masks, but won't have mandates for those.

Brock University also confirming the same.

However, other schools in Ontario are taking a different approach as the pandemic continues.

Western in London has implemented vaccine and masking requirements for students, faculty, staff and some visitors.

The University of Toronto stopped requiring proof of vaccination for those attending classes earlier this spring, but says students and staff planning to live in campus residences will need to have two shots and at least one booster dose.

Laurier also announced it will require face-coverings in instructional spaces, effective the first day of fall term on Sept. 8.
