United Way Niagara is getting a boost from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

As part of the OLG's 'Collecting for the Community' virtual promotion, $1,950.69 was collected for the charity.

The promotion was launched in July, and set a goal to collect $50,000 for United Ways across Ontario.

From July 19th - January 3rd, players who visited CollectingfortheCommunity.ca could play the free activity, while securing additional funding for their local chapter.

Each of the 27 participating locations was guaranteed to get at least $1,000, but local contributions were increased through player participation in the 'Collecting for the Community' promotion.

"Giving back is at the heart of all we do and we are proud of the role we play in making Ontario stronger," said Duncan Hannay, OLG’s President and CEO. "OLG and our employees have a long, meaningful history with the United Way in Ontario. It is an important community partner that supports vulnerable populations through numerous charities and community assistance programs."

The OLG says $1,000 provides nutritious meals for 100 seniors, while $2,400 will help ten people get the support to find housing and stay housed for three months.

A virtual cheque presentation took place to mark the donation.
