Police find suspected fentanyl and crystal meth during traffic stop

A traffic stop in Niagara Falls has led to a pair of arrests.

Around 9:20 a.m. on April 11th, police stopped a 2006 grey Chevrolet Avalanche traveling west on Monroe Street toward Franklin Avenue.

A query of the license plate returned "unattached", meaning, the car was not properly registered with the Ministry of Transportation.

After initiating the stop, the driver and the passenger both got out of the vehicle and tried to walk away.

At this point, the driver was arrested for not registering the vehicle, and the passenger willfully returned to the car.

A search was conducted, and police found 21.6 grams of suspected fentanyl in the car and on the ground from where both the driver and passenger got out.

Police also found 0.5 grams of suspected crystal meth in the driver's pocket, as well as various tools believed to be break-in instruments.

The tools include two-way handheld radios, flashlights, binoculars and power tools.

Facing charges are 53 year old Gerald Douglas Caines and 41 year old Matthew James Robert Graham.

The pair have been released on bail and are due back in court on June 15th.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer by dialing 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009558.
