Trudeau Meets With Premiers to Discuss Health Care Funding

Federal government proposes plan to increase health transfers to provinces by $196 billion

The federal government has met with the country's premiers to discuss health care funding.

During today's meeting, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proposed a plan to increase health care funding by $196 billion over the next ten years.

This includes just under two billion dollars over five years to support wage bumps for personal support workers.

It also includes $25 billion for areas such as mental health and family health services.

The deal falls short of the amount the premiers were calling for.

The premiers had asked the federal government to boost its share of health care funding from 22 percent to 35 percent.
