Protest expected to end at 5:00 p.m. today

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada are hitting picket lines across the country today,  after negotiations with the government broke down.

Here in Niagara, workers are expected to protest outside the Pen Centre until about 5 PM.

Over 155,000 federal public servants are on strike after the union and the Treasury Board failed to reach an agreement by last night's strike deadline.

Wages have been the main issue, with the Treasury Board offering a nine percent raise over three years.

The union is asking for 13.5 percent.

The strike could result in delays for many services, including tax processing, passport renewals and employment insurance applications.

Officials also say it could cause delays at border crossings and airports.
