Strike Notice Issued for WestJet and Swoop Pilots

All WestJet and Swoop aircraft could be grounded as of Friday morning.

CANADA - It looks like all WestJet and Swoop aircraft could be grounded before the long weekend.

The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents 1,600 flight crew at WestJet and Swoop, has issued a 72-hour strike notice. It says the lawful job action will begin early Friday morning and "could include grounding all aircraft and effectively shutting down operations."

The union has been fighting for job protection, pay, and scheduling during contract negotiations.

The WestJet group has issued a lockout notice in response to the strike notice.
