A tentative deal was reached for workers at stores in Toronto

A tentative agreement has been reached to avert a strike by about 3,700 workers at 27 Metro stores across the Greater Toronto Area.

Unifor says it was reached just after midnight when workers were set to walk out.

The union calls the deal with the grocery chain a ``milestone agreement'' that underscores the union's commitment to improving workplace rights for grocery workers.

Members will find out what's in the deal ahead of a ratification vote in the coming week.
