St. Catharines MPP says nursing homes residents need a minimum of four hours of care per day.
St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens and Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says the Ontario government needs to do more to address the needs of senior citizens.
During Question Period today, Stevens urged Premier Doug Ford to increase funding for long-term care homes, saying Niagara's nursing home residents need a minimum standard of four hours of care per day.
"Residents of Niagara nursing homes deserve a high standard of care to make sure their needs are met. They deserve homes with enough staff to make sure they each get four hours of care, each day. We need to make sure that no family has to experience the anguish of neglect or poor quality care, especially due to low staffing, like we saw during the pandemic."
Stevens also invited the Premier to Niagara to spend a day with frontline workers.
Meanwhile, Gates noted during Question Period that seniors in his riding are facing an affordability crisis.
"As the cost of everything rises, hydro, gas and food are also becoming less affordable for seniors on fixed incomes."
He also says seniors in his riding are struggling to find affordable housing, with many being forced out due to renovictions as housing costs rise.
