St. Catharines City Council has decided to release the $10-million, that it had set aside for Canada Summer Games infrastructure earlier this year.

The money will help pay for Henley Rowing Centre upgrades and the construction of the Sport and Ability Centre.

But Council also approved the closure of the Garden City Arena Complex, once the new twin-pad arena opens at Brock University.

This was all recommended in the City's arena strategy. In order to keep the Garden City Complex open, the City would have had to pay $7-million in upgrades over the next 15 years.

The City of St. Catharines will share the Canada Games Sport and Ability Centre with the City of Thorold and Brock University.
