St. Catharine Fire Services Encouraging Fire Safety this Long Weekend

The May 24 long weekend is coming up, and St. Catharines Fire Services wants you to enjoy it safely.

People who plan to enjoy a barbecue this weekend are reminded to keep burner ports clean and to check the hose from the fuel supply to the burners to make sure it isn't cracked or damaged.

Fireworks are permitted, but outdoor fires are not.

Anyone who violates the city's open air burning by-law could face a $268 fine.

“We recognize how important it is for residents to celebrate the traditions of the long weekend,” said Chief Jeff McCormick. “And while COVID-19 has impacted all our lives, there is still the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors safely for ourselves and our families. Most importantly during this weekend I urge all residents to ensure that they are protected with properly installed and operating smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.”
