SIU Closes 406 Crash Investigation in St. Catharines

The Special Investigations Unit will not be charging an OPP officer, in relation to a crash on the 406 in St. Catharines.

Reports say the officer caught the vehicle going 134 kilometres per hour on the QEW back in March.

The officer turned their emergency lights on and tried to pull it over, but the vehicle made a fast exit onto the 406. The officer followed the vehicle onto the 406, but lost sight of it.

Another OPP cruiser found the it rolled over on the Fourth Avenue ramp.

Two men had to be cut out of the vehicle and taken to hospital.

The 20-year-old driver fractured his spine, while the 21-year-old passenger sustained injuries to his face.

SIU Interim Director Joseph Martino has found no reasonable grounds to charge the OPP officer involved.
