Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

It's also the launch of the 12 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. This is an international campaign which encourages everyone to shine a light on the issue.

Here in Niagara, two of the arches on the Peace Bridge will glow purple tonight starting at dusk and ending at 1:00 a.m.

The Horseshoe Falls will glow purple tomorrow night.

The Wrapped in Courage Campaign has also been going on all month long

Amanda Braet, the Development Director for Women's Place of South Niagara, says it supports women and children affected by violence.

"It is a fundraiser for Women's Place but it's also a way to signify to those in the community that we wear our scarves proud to show them that the courage of a woman alone is not enough. Together we need to stand together, support those affected and work together towards ending it."

She adds all of the money raised benefits local shelters and outreach programs.

"These programs are entirely free to women and children who need them. That's only because of the success of our fundraising campaigns but also the generous community that supports our programs."
