UPDATE: Bernardo to Stay in Medium Security Prison

The Correctional Service of Canada says the decision to move Paul Bernardo was "sound"

The Correctional Service of Canada is defending the decision to transfer serial killer Paul Bernardo to a medium security prison.

During a press briefing today, Commissioner Anne Kelly said the decision followed all applicable laws and policies.

The move was based on what the agency says was an effective offender integration plan as well as Bernardo's behaviour.

However, the review also found additional steps should have been taken to provide more information.

In May, Bernardo was transferred to a medium security facility after spending about thirty years in maximum security.

He was convicted of killing teenagers Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy near St. Catharines in the early 90s.
