Region to Assess Pedestrian Traffic Near New School

It'll happen around West Niagara Secondary

The Niagara Region is assessing the traffic situation near the new West Niagara Secondary School.

The school, which opened on September 5th, is located on King Street in Lincoln.

It replaced schools in Grimsby, Smithville and Beamsville, and is home to 1,500 students.

Niagara Region staff have been observing traffic in the area, to look at pedestrian and driver behavior, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times.

The results have allowed the region to move forward with a pedestrian count, in hopes that it will lead to the creation of a crosswalk.

The count is expected to be finished by the end of the month.

As part of King Street's future reconstruction plan, options will be considered to reduce congestion in and around the new school.

Reconstruction efforts are being planned for late next year or early 2025.
