RCMP Investigating Greenbelt Land Swap

The RCMP has launched an investigation into the Greenbelt scandal

The RCMP has opened an investigation into the province's decision to open up parts of the Greenbelt.

In a statement, the RCMP said it's investigating allegations relating to the decision.

The investigation will be led by the RCMP's Ontario Division's Sensitive and International Investigations Unit.

Last year, the province announced plans to remove Greenbelt-protected land to make way for more housing.

Earlier this year, the province's auditor general and integrity commissioner released reports which found certain developers received preferential treatment.

The controversy led to the resignation of two ministers.

Premier Doug Ford changed course on the decision last month, saying all the lands would be returned to the Greenbelt.

Ford has previously said he is confident no crimes took place.

Opposition Leader Marit Stiles has issued a statement in response to the news, saying Ford's actions were "absolutely shameful."
