Public Service Alliance of Canada Begins Strike Action

More than 155,000 members of the Public Servants Alliance of Canada are now on strike. This includes 35,000 workers with the Canada Revenue Agency.

CANADA - Tens of thousands of federal public servants are now on strike across Canada.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada officially began strike action shortly after midnight last night, after a tentative contract was not reached with the federal Treasury Board before the 9:00 p.m. deadline.

There will be more than 250 picket locations across the country with more than 155,000 union members on strike, including 35,000 from the Canada Revenue Agency. The striking workers will have to attend one of the picket locations for four hours each day.

Officials from the union and the government have both warned that this strike could cause delays and disruptions to tax filing, passport applications, Employment Insurance, and other federal services.

The union is fighting for more money and permanent work-from-home arrangements.
