Province Responds Concerning GM Plant

Ministry of the Environment says it'll set up a meeting to over water test results

Another glimmer of hope for those seeking answers to condition of the old General Motors plant in St. Catharines.

The Standard reports after countless emails from city officials to the provincial Ministry of the Environment, the government has responded saying it will set up a date to report on progress of cleaning up the site.

Samples from stormwater taken near the site in late 2020 showed PCB's, with the owner tasked with a plan for cleanup.

The provincial government cancelled, at the last minute, a September 28th update at St. Catharines city council.

Since then many emails have gone unanswered, until Friday, after continuous pressure, and from local MPP Jennie Stevens.
