Province Extends Tuition Freeze

Good news for college and university students in Ontario.

The provincial government is extending the current tuition freeze for another year, in order to provide more financial assistance to students and families during the pandemic.

Ross Romano, Minister of Colleges and Universities, says this will be a big help to students.

"The financial uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic further underscores the need to keep college and university programs affordable. By freezing tuition our government is continuing to reduce the financial strain on families’ pocketbooks."

Prior to last year's tuition reduction, Ontario tuition rates were the highest in the country.

Ontario has since dropped to the third highest for undergraduate students and the second highest for graduate students.

It's estimated that without last year's reduction and the freeze policy, students in university undergraduate arts and science degree would have paid an extra $660.
