Education Minister Stephen Lecce says province has struck a deal with the Ontario Teachers' Federations, allowing retirees to work 95 days instead of 50 until the end of June.
The province will allow retired teachers to work more days in order to address staff shortages brought on by the pandemic.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says a deal has been made with the Ontario Teacher's Federation to deliver access to thousands of qualified educators.
He claims the move will help schools run while remote learning is in place and when kids return to classes.
"Well before Omicron came to Ontario, school boards were reporting high rates of absenteeism from education staff. We need staff in order to continue providing live teacher-led remote learning and safely operate our schools when students return to in-person learning."
Until June 30th, retired teachers will be able to work 95 days in an instructional year, which is up from 50.
Due to a surge in new COVID-19 cases, Ontario schools are engaging in remote learning until at least January 17th.
