Port Colborne Firefighters to Test Home Alarms for 'Test it Tuesday'

Residents encouraged to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will be visiting neighbourhoods to ensure all homes in the area have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for 'Test it Tuesday.'

Firefighters will be heading to homes across Port Colborne on Tuesday, May 17th to help test and install alarms as needed.

"We have experienced both the effectiveness of working smoke alarms and the tragedy of fire in our community," said Charles Turpin, fire prevention officer. "COVID-19 has seen more people at home and as restrictions ease our focus is to ensure every home in Port Colborne has a working smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. We are always working towards 100 per cent compliance across the city."

During the month of May, Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services will also install battery operated smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for free in all single-family dwellings (while quantities last, restrictions apply).
