UDPATE: St. Catharines Shelter in Place Lifted

Police looking for armed suspect

Niagara Regional Police have lifted a shelter in place that was issued for part of St. Catharines this morning. 

Around 8:30 a.m., an armed man went into Enterprise Truck Rental near Lake Street and Scott Street.

He demanded the keys to a vehicle, then fled after the clerk didn't hand any over.

Police scoured the area for the individual, but did not locate the suspect.

A shelter in place was issued for nearby homes, schools and businesses, but has since been lifted. 

Police say they don't believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.  

The suspect is described as follows:

  • Male 
  • White
  • Appx 6’0” tall
  • Medium build

The suspect was last seen wearing:

  • Black hoody
  • Black pants
  • Red bandana with a white pattern (worn on his face)
  • Sunglasses
  • Black leather shoes

Detectives from the 1 District Criminal Investigative Branch continue to look for the suspect. 

Nearby residents and businesses are asked to call police if they spot a suspicious person matching the description.
