Pelham Council Approves Tax Increase

The increase is for the 2023 Capital and Operating budget

The Town of Pelham has approved this year's Capital and Operating budget, which means a tax levy increase of 5.9-percent.

Council says that means for a home valued at around $375,000, it's an increase of about $122 a year.

The water and wastewater budgets were presented to council Monday night, with the final approval later this month.

The town's treasurer Teresa Quinlin-Murphy says council is working to build reserves, while ensuring fiscal responsibility that meets the needs of the community and respecting taxpayers' money at the same time.  Each year residents and businesses provide input, then town staff put together a preliminary budget, and then the Mayor and Council work through that and approve the final document.

The 2023 tax bill will come in the spring.
