Ottawa Expected to Ask Canadians to Avoid Non Essential Travel to Foreign Countries

PM and Premiers talk border and travel measures in call last night

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the country's premiers last night on additional border and travel measures that could help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The first ministers discussed the Omicron variant, which is rapidly spreading around the globe.

The readout of the call from the P-M-O says the leaders noted the strain the variant could end up putting on our health care systems.

Sources say the federal government is expected to advise Canadians against non-essential travel to foreign countries in an announcement today.

According to insiders, Ottawa will likely announce mandatory COVID testing at airports for all travellers coming back to Canada, regardless of nationality or the country they are arriving from.
