The OPP says over the past five years, hundreds have been killed in traffic/marine incidents where safety equipment was not worn
It's the first weekend of summer, and the OPP is reminding you to be safe when heading out on roads, waterways and trails.
Over the past five years, 466 people have died in OPP-investigated traffic/marine incidents in which safety equipment wasn't worn.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique says if you're driving, cycling or enjoying the water, you need to wear a seatbelt, helmet or lifejacket.
"Having the protection of a seatbelt, lifejacket or helmet gives you and your family your best chance at surviving a life-threatening situation on roads, waterways and trails. The OPP wants to see everyone have a safe and enjoyable summer."
Off-road vehicle drivers and motorcyclists are required by law to wear an approved helmet, and motor vehicle drivers need to ensure all passengers under the age of 15 buckle up.
