OPP Lay Over 12,000 Charges During Canada Road Safety Week

OPP responded to seven road fatalities during annual campaign

The OPP is reporting a number of road fatalities leading up to and during the long weekend.

During Canada Road Safety Week, seven people were killed on OPP patrolled roads, with three of the deadly collisions taking place this weekend. 

As well, over 12,000 charges were laid last week. 

About 6,900 charges were related to speeding. 

Meanwhile, 175 people were charged for stunt driving or racing, 245 charges were laid for impaired driving and 144 charges were laid for distracted driving. 

Careless driving resulted in 124 charges, and 622 people were charged for not wearing a seatbelt. 

The rest of the offences involved unlawful and unsafe moving violations and driver actions.
