OPP Investigating Packages Containing Potentially Lethal Substance

One person has been arrested by Peel Regional Police as officers investigate several packages of sodium nitrite that were sent out to people at risk across the province.

ONTARIO - The OPP is warning the public about packages of sodium nitrite being sent out across the province.

Sodium nitrite is a white crystalline substance that's found in processed meats. It could reduce your oxygen levels, impair your breathing and potentially kill you if you ingest excessive amounts of it.

Police say it's being sold online and mailed out to people at risk across the province. You should call police if you or someone you're living with gets a package in the mail from Imtime Cuisine, AmbuCA, Academic/ACademic, Escape Mode/escMode, or ICemac.

Peel Regional Police arrested a suspect yesterday evening but no further details have been provided.

Anyone with information in regard to this investigation should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. You can also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
