Ontario Science Table Return to School Plan

The Ontario Science Table is recommending kids to head back to class in September with extra curriculars and loosened masking, social distancing and cohorting rules when COVID-19 transmission risks are low.

The Ontario Science Table is recommending schools re-open in the fall.

This includes the return of extracurricular's and loosening masking and social distancing rules. The only way schools will not open, is if the Province has an unexpected and catastrophic spike in COVID-19 cases.

Schools have been closed to in class learning in Ontario, longer than anywhere else in the country. The Health Table experts acknowledged that closing schools and not having extracurricular's has a negative impact on children's physical and mental health.

The plan calls for different rules when COVID-19 transmission risks are low, moderate and high. When the risks are low, then, masking and cohorting rules can be relaxed.
