Ontario Schools to Remain Closed for Rest of School Year

Schools in Niagara and across the rest of the province will remain closed for the rest of the school year.

Premier Doug Ford says this was not an easy decision to make, but it’s the right one.

“After careful consideration and after consulting with health experts, it is clear that we cannot open schools at this time. I’m just not going to risk it.”

But he says this does not mean the school year is over.

“We have a plan to ensure that our children’s education can continue outside of the classroom. At home learning will continue and all students from Grades K through 12 will receive their report cards.”

Ontario was the first province in Canada to close all schools back in March, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford says childcare centres will be included in phase 2 of re-opening the province, but overnight camps will remain closed for the summer.

He says day camps will be able to open in July and August, as long as our COVID-19 trends continue to improve.

The day camps would also have to follow strict public health measures.
