One Person Seriously Hurt After Collision

Police say it happened on Lundy's Lane after a vehicle blew through a stop light

A 31-year old man from Manitoba is facing charges after a serious collision closed Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls overnight.

Niagara police were called to the intersection at Highland Avenue around 10 last night, to find two vehicles involved.

They say a Dodge Durango went through a stop light at a high rate of speed, hitting a Hyundai, causing both vehicles to roll.

The Dodge hit a nearby building, while the Hyundai knocked over a traffic light before it stopped rolling.

Police add the driver of the Dodge claimed he was the passenger, and the driver fled, but police soon found that not to be true.

Derek Joseph Horth faces impaired driving charges, and remained in custody waiting for a bail hearing in St. Catharines.

The 33-year old Niagara Falls man, driving the Hyundai, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say damage is estimated at $50,000 to the Dodge, and $30,000 for the Hyundai.
