NRP Urging Public to Stay Away From Escaped Wolf

Police asking public to not go looking for the wolf

Niagara Regional Police have issued an update following the escape of an Artic wolf that had been rescued from northern Ontario and was residing in western Port Colborne.

The adult female wolf escaped yesterday morning after it dug out of its enclosure.

Niagara police are working with the City of Port Colborne and the Niagara SPCA in trying to locate the wolf.

Police are strongly encouraging the public to not go looking for the wolf.

They say any forced interaction could cause a negative outcome for the human and the wolf.

Pressuring the wolf could also cause it to run, making its capture more difficult.

The public in the area are being cautioned to be aware of their personal safety and that of their pets.

Anyone who may see the wolf is asked to contact their local Niagara SPCA 905-735-1552 extension 3 or the Communications Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111Dispatch.
