Drivers nabbed for speeding, seatbelt infractions and distracted driving.

Niagara Regional Police issued 97 tickets and warnings during it's back to school safety blitz today.

Earlier today, Senior Officers and those who work in specialty units participated in the 22nd annual back to school traffic safety and awareness day.

Police say 29 tickets were issued for speeding, as well as two for seatbelt infractions and one for distracted driving.

Three other drivers were charged with driving while under suspension and two more were charged with operating vehicles with no insurance.

Thirty tickets were written for other various traffic offences, and 30 written warnings were given out.

This year, police focused on speed enforcement in Niagara's 12 Community Safety Zones, where speeding fines are doubled.

The NRP is reminding drivers to be alert and cautious, especially when traveling near schools.
