Funds will be used towards updating equipment and more CCTV surveillance cameras
The Niagara Regional Police Service is getting some financial help from the province.
The Ontario government is investing $192,275 to help the NRP expand its video surveillance program.
The money will be used to replace outdated equipment, enhance current technology, and install new or additional CCTV surveillance cameras where violent crimes are prevalent.
"Our government is working hard to support local police services and frontline officers in their efforts to prevent crime and hold offenders accountable," said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.
"Families in Niagara need to feel safe in their local communities as they work, learn and travel throughout the region."
The Ontario CCTV Grant program is investing a total of $2.8 million in 24 police services in the province this year.
The grant funding covers fifty percent of project costs up to a maximum of $200,000 for each successful project.
