NRP Chief Issues Statement as OPP Investigates Alleged Facebook Comments About Indigenous Hunters

The Niagara Regional Police Service supports the treaty rights of the Haudenosaunee First Nation to hunt, but it also respects the rights of individuals to peacefully protest.

Chief Bryan MacCulloch issued the statement on social media earlier today, as the OPP investigates a series of Facebook comments about Indigenous hunters in Short Hills Provincial Park.

According to the St. Catharines Standard, some of the alleged comments on the Niagara Action of Animals page called for violence against the hunters, while others labelled them as drunks and barbarians.

Chief MacCulloch says his officers will assist in the OPP investigation if need be.
