Niagara's First Female Professional Firefighter Retiring

After nearly 18 years she's calling it a career.

According to the Welland Tribune, Cheri Busch will retire this Thursday.
She was originally hired in 2002 by Welland Fire and Emergency Services becoming Niagara's first female professional firefighter.
After serving as a first responder for five years, Busch became a fire prevention officer and took over as lead of the division around three years ago.
At the age of 57, she plans to spend her retirement with family and friends.
Her position will be filled by Matt Richardson, who is already an employee with the fire prevention team.
