Niagara Under Freezing Rain Warning

Storm expected to take place this afternoon until early tomorrow morning

Niagara is under a freezing rain warning.

The weather office says an ice storm is on the way this afternoon, and will last until early tomorrow morning.

The area can expect snow and ice pellets early this afternoon, which will change to freezing rain around rush hour.

The freezing rain will continue throughout the night.

Environment Canada says some areas could get 10 to 20 mm of ice.

There will also be winds around 50 to 70 km/h.

There could be utility outages and tree damage.

Motorists are advised to drive to conditions.

"Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight."
