Niagara Transit Services Amalgamating

The new Commission takes over January 1st

Transit services in the region are about to amalgamate into one service in the new year, the Niagara Transit Commission.

General Manager Carla Stout tells us the goal is to improve service for riders, including one in Fort Erie that's contracted out to a local provider.

"It runs the on-demand van system, within the municipal boundaries of Fort Erie.  Fort Erie also has the regional bus that leaves countless times a day, that makes connections to Niagara Falls," she says.

She says the goal of the Commission, formed in May by the region, is to bring the two services together starting January 1st.   "From the rider perspective, they're going to have the same level of services and routes, even down to the same buses, when we start shortly in the new year."

The GM adds the St. Catharines bus station on 1st Street Louth will be the Commission's headquarters, but with satellite offices across the region.
