Niagara SPCA Helping Storm Affected Pets

Niagara's severe weather didn’t just displace people, it also displaced pets.

In response, the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society have dispatched their vehicles to warming centres at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre in Port Colborne, and the Leisureplex in Fort Erie, to house the animals of anyone inside.

Niagara SPCA and Humane Society executive director John Greer said that as he lives in Fort Erie, he knows what other residents are going through, having been without power himself for three days.

The problem is those with animals are unable to keep them with them if they are using the warming centres.

The vehicles have generators on board for heat and they have bags of cat and dog food in case someone looking to house their pets there wasn’t able to get food.
