Niagara Region Offering Compost for Cash or Food Donations

Regional landfills will accept charitable donations in exchange for compost

You'll soon have a chance to help the planet and local charities.

From May 8th - 20, Niagara Region landfills will provide compost for a cash or food donation, as part of International Compost Awareness Week.

Niagara residents can pick up 20 litre bags of compost at the following locations while quantities last:

  • Bridge Street Waste and Recycling Depot in Fort Erie
  • Niagara Road 12 Landfill in West Lincoln
  • Humberstone Landfill in Welland

You'll need to load the compost into your own car.

In exchange for the compost, the Niagara Region is asking residents to donate food or money to one of the following charities:

  • Fort Erie Community Outreach Program Erie
  • West Lincoln Community Care
  • Salvation Army Thrift Store
  • The Hope Centre (Women’s Place)
  • Goodwill Niagara

The Niagara Region is also reminding residents to use their green bins, in order to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
