Niagara-on-the-Lake is mourning the loss of Dennis Dick.

The former Town Councillor passed away on Friday after a year-long battle with mantle cell lymphoma.

He was in his 67th year.

Dick served on Town Council for 23 years and he was also volunteer firefighter with the Virgil Fire Station for 15 years.

He was very involved in the town even after his term on council.

Dick was a part of the Committee of Adjustment, the Agricultural Committee and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Santa Claus Parade Committee.

He also volunteered with the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce to help with the Ice Wine Festival and the Candlelight Stroll.

The town has lowered the flags outside Town Hall in his honour today.

Visitations will be held at Bethany Mennonite Church this Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Another visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday August 31st but it will be a private event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arrangements are being made so members of the public will be able to live stream the ceremony from their own homes.
