Niagara Health System Reinstating Masking Policy

Move is in response to increased COVID-19 activity in Ontario

Starting Monday (October 2nd) Niagara Health staff, physicians, volunteers, students and residents will be required to wear masks when providing patient care or service in patient-facing areas.

The measure is in response to the increased circulation of COVID-19 and is intended to protect patients and the health of Niagara Health System (NHS) staff.

The measure includes emergency departments, urgent care centres, diagnostic and procedural areas, and outpatient clinics, including Walker Family Cancer Centre, dialysis units, neurology clinics, EVS, Spiritual Care, New Port Centre and Withdrawal Management Services.

The change is in alignment with what the Hamilton, Haldimand, Brant and Burlington hospital partners have all enacted.

Visitors, families and patients are strongly encouraged to mask whenever possible.

Niagara Health says it will continue to revisit and evaluate these measures related to the spread of COVID-19 in our region.

Mandatory masks for staff at both of Hamilton's hospital networks went into effect today.
